British FTSE 100 up 0.63 pct on Thursday

The FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Thursday increased by 0.63 percent, or 42.70 points, to 6,796.45 points.

The London stock index rose as the European Central Bank (ECB) raised emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) for Greek banks by 900 million euros (979.6 million U.S. dollars).

ECB President Draghi said the ECB accommodated the Greek central bank's request and raised the cap of ELA over one week.

The British pound Thursday climbed to 1.4350 against euro for the first time since November 2007.

Weir Group's share price increased by 4.20 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips. Pearson, Smiths Group, Ashtead Group and Wolseley by 2.85 percent, 2.19 percent, 1.99 percent and 1.86 percent respectively.

BP led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 1.19 percent, followed by Fresnillo (1.18 percent), Randgold Resources Ltd. (0.39 percent), United Utilities Group (0.28 percent) and Marks & Spencer Group PLC (0.18 percent). Endit
