Atletico Madrid finally confirm Martinez signing

Xinhua, July 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have finally confirmed the signing of Colombian international striker, Jackson Martinez from Porto, two weeks after the Portuguese club had confirmed his sale and almost a month after Martinez himself had said he was moving to Spain.

The confirmation from Atletico came late on Wednesday night with an official communique saying they had paid his 35 million euro (39 million U.S. dollar) buyout clause.

There had been some doubt over the method of payment given that Porto were reported to have wanted to include player Oliver Torres in the deal while Atletico were reluctant to lose one of their most promising young players.

Atletico confirmed that Martinez, who scored 32 goals for Porto in the 2014-15 season, had signed a four-year contract with the club to become their third major signing of the summer following the arrival of forwards, Ferreira Carrasco and Luciano Vietto. Endi
