India has summoned Pakistani envoy and lodged a strong protest with him over ceasefire violations, for the seventh time this month, along the international border in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, sources said Thursday.
"Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit was summoned to the Indian External Affairs Ministry in the national capital and the protest was lodged with him about ceasefire violations in which one woman was killed and six others injured," the sources said.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the state Friday and sources said that the escalation in border tensions came a week after both the countries issued a joint statement and held bilateral prime ministerial meeting in the Russian city of Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
India has also denied allegations that Pakistan shot down an Indian "spy" drone along the Line of Control in the disputed region of Kashmir Wednesday.
"Some reports of a drone crash in POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) are being referred to. No drone or UAV crash of Indian Army has taken place," the Indian Defense Ministry has said in a statement. Endi
