Olympic diving champion Chen to compete in mixed event at Kazan Worlds

Xinhua, July 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese diving team leader Zhou Jihong announced on Wednesday that Olympic champion Chen Ruolin will replace Si Yajie to take part in the team event, while Si will compete in the women's 10m platform instead of Liu Huixia, who is suffering a shoulder injury and will only participate in the synchro platform in Kazan.

Chen, winner of the women's 10m platform and platform synchro in both Beijing and London Olympic Games, lost her form earlier the year and failed to qualify for the individual event in Kazan. She will compete in the 10m platform synchronized with Liu Huixia at the world championships.

"I trained hard and made some improvement in the recent month," Chen said. "It's difficult, and I had thought about giving up, but it is only one year away from the Rio Olympic Games, so I made up my mind to continue."

Zhou was also satisfied with Chen's progress.

"It's not easy for her," said the team leader. "Chen is a good diver, and I hope she can take part in one more Olympic Games."

The Chinese diving team will leave for Kazan on July 20. Endi
