Seoul shares ended higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 13.68 points, or 0.66 percent, to 2,072.91 at the close. Trading volume stood at 613.19 million shares worth 7.49 trillion won (6. 56 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended slightly higher Wednesday as sentiment here was supported by an optimistic mood over Greek bailout plan. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 78.00 points, or 0.38 percent, from Tuesday at 20,463.33.

The turnover was about 2,336.1 billion yen (about 18.92 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australia's stocks continued the rally in the afternoon as bullish traders lifted the market 1 percent higher following the release of strong economic growth figures out of China on Wednesday.

At market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 was up 58.8 points, or 1.05 percent, to 5,636.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index added 57.1 points, or 1.03 percent, to 5,619.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Wednesday down 0. 13 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 1.76 points to 1,325.95. A total of 131,447 shares worth about 896 million Lao kip (about 111,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.27 percent higher on Wednesday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 20.28 points to 7,559.04. The all-share index went up by 17.37 points,or 0.40 percent, to 4,314.00.

Trading volume reached 2.04 billion shares worth 8.49 billion pesos (187.81 million U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- Chinese shares extended its retreat on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slumping 3.03 percent to close at 3,805.7 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index dived 4.68 percent to close at 12,132.42 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 65.15 points, or 0.26 percent to 25,055.76 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,862.65 and 25, 219.45. Turnover totaled 106.64 billion HK dollars (about 13.45 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.13 percent on Wednesday with the weighted index up 12.44 points at 9,054.20, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 82.31 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.66 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 630.89 points on Wednesday, down 7.8 points, or 1.22 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 141.789 million shares worth 2.762 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (127.48 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 78 stocks went up, 152 stocks fell down, while 62 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 87.66 points on Wednesday, down 1.08 points, or 1. 22 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 63.254 million shares worth 779.027 billion Vietnamese dong (36.07 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 13.32 percent in volume and 12.92 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 22.36 points, or 67 percent, to close at 3,338.86.

A total of 1.24 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 860.2 million Singapore dollars (632.5 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,727.26, up 6.16 points or 0.36 percent, and the Emas was at 11,882.66, up 36.38 points or 0.31 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.31 billion shares valued at 1.70 billion ringgit Malaysia (446.43 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.48 billion shares valued at 1.69 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 443.80 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 31.96 points, or 0. 65 percent, to 4,869.85 on Wednesday.

Some 180,717 transactions were booked, involving 3.58 billion shares worth 3.87 trillion rupiah (about 290.04 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 1.66 points, or 0.11 percent to close at 1,486.74 points.
