Burkina Faso's presidential candidates to file papers on July 24

Xinhua, July 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso's National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) said on Monday it will start receiving nomination papers for candidates contesting in the October elections on July 24, 2015.

CENI said any legally constituted party or independent group desiring to participate in the elections should file its nomination papers.

The statement added that the nomination papers are supposed to be filed at the CENI general secretariat, at least 70 days before the election date, by a party or grouping that endorsed a candidate.

According to the same statement, the special review of the electoral register that occurred between March 3 to May 18, 2015, enabled over 892,000 new voters to be registered across the entire national territory.

Currently, the number of registered voters stands at over 5.5 million, distributed in 17,931 polling stations.

These voters will take part in the double presidential and legislative elections on Oct. 11, 2015 and municipal elections on Jan. 31, 2016. Endi
