At least six people have been killed and several injured in a stampede at a religious festival in the southern India state of Andhra Pradesh Tuesday, a senior police officer said.

The mishap took place in the Rajahmundry district at Pushkaram, which is held once every 12 years to celebrate rivers, the officer said on condition of anonymity.
