Australian bankruptcies fall to lowest level in 20 years

Australian personal bankruptcies have fallen to their lowest levels in 20 years, the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) revealed on Monday.

AFSA figures showed total bankruptcies Australia wide in 2014- 15 fell by 7.7 percent to 17,163 -- the lowest number in 20 years, local media reported.

However, the mining rich regions of Western Australia and the Northern Territory bucked the trend, with personal bankruptcies up by 19.3 percent and 3.5 percent respectively.

New South Wales recorded the biggest fall in the number of bankruptcies, followed by Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Endi
