Palmeiras close to deal with Paraguay striker

Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Paraguay international striker Lucas Barrios has agreed in principle to join eight-time Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras, the 30-year-old said on Sunday.

Barrios arrived at Sao Paulo international airport to finalize details of his transfer from Spartak Moscow.

"I am very happy. We are going to wait for the club to confirm the move but I'm delighted to be in Brazil," Barrios told reporters.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward spent last season on loan at French side Montpellier, scoring 12 goals from 32 matches.

He helped Paraguay to fourth place at the Copa America in Chile earlier this month, scoring three goals in the continental tournament.

Palmeiras are expected to confirm the signing of Barrios on a three-year deal on Wednesday. Endi
