U.S. and partner-nation military forces carried out 16 more airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS) forces in Syria and Iraq over the weekend, U.S. Department of Defense said Sunday.

The airstrikes in Aleppo, Hasakah, Raqqah and Kobani, all in Syria, destroyed IS targets including seven tactical units, three vehicles, eight fighting positions, three motorcycles, five staging areas, two excavators and a bunker, said the DOD in a statement.

Meanwhile, the airstrikes in Iraq's Huwayjah, Beiji, Makhmur, Habbaniyah, Sinjar, Fallujah and Ramadi destroyed more IS targets such as six tactical units, eight vehicles, four rocket positions, seven buildings, a fuel tanker, a bunker, a boat and a tunnel.

According to the statement, the coalition forces have carried out more than 5,200 strikes in Syria and Iraq over IS targets since the beginning of the air campaign last August. Endite
