Algerian army kills militant, arrests another east of capital

Algerian army troops on Sunday killed a militant and arrested another one east of the capital Algiers, the Defense Ministry said.

As part of the fight against terrorism, army troops killed a militant in the province of Bouira, 120 km east of Algiers, the ministry said in a statement.

It added that an amount of ammunition, a Kalashnikov, explosives, a mobile phone were seized in the operation.

The statement also said the troops arrested a man in possession of a shotgun, a handmade bomb, ammunition, explosives and two mobile phones in the province of Skikda, 400 km east of Algiers.

Last week, the ministry said 102 armed militants were killed during the first half of 2015.

It said the heaviest toll was recorded in the central region of Algeria, within the 1st Military Region, where 66 militants were killed. Endit
