One killed in armed attack by PKK in northeastern Turkey

Xinhua, July 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

One person was killed and two others wounded in an armed attack staged by rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in northeastern Turkey on Sunday, private Dogan news agency reported.

A group of PKK militants launched the attack against a civilian minibus carrying water in Gole town of Ardahan province Sunday morning, leaving one person and two others injured, according to the report.

The wounded were sent to Ardahan State Hospital for medical treatment, the report said, adding that an operation has been launched in fight against the PKK in the region.

Meanwhile, another group of PKK members stopped four trucks and burned out the vehicles in Pervari town of Siirt province in southeastern Turkey, private Dogan News Agency reported on Saturday.

The Turkish government launched an initiative in early 2013 popularly known as the "solution process" to end the decades-old conflict with the outlawed PKK, which has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people.

But the government has suspended the settlement process in a bid not to lose nationalist votes during election campaign for June 7 parliamentary elections.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey as well as by the United States and the European Union. Endit
