Rwanda says to stem genocide denial and revisionism

Rwanda Friday reiterated commitment to fight genocide denial as Kigali accused some Western countries of harboring genocide revisionists.
France and the U.S. are some of the countries said to be harboring genocide revisionists, including French citizens and American researchers who featured in controversial documentary "Rwanda's Untold Story" which triggered ban on BBC Kinyarwanda transmission in Rwanda.
The National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) said more cases of genocide ideology and denial were recorded during this year's 21st commemoration of the genocide in Rwanda compared to previous years.
Presenting a report on this year's commemoration to journalists in Kigali on Friday, Dr Jean Damascène Bizimana, the executive secretary of CNLG said 168 cases of genocide ideology were reported compared to 86 cases registered last year.
He explained that the rise was due to the fact that commemoration events were held at village levels.
Bizimana said efforts were in place to carry out intense sensitization campaigns against genocide denial and ideology in schools, public places and prisons.
The former Rwandan senator said genocide research would also help counter denial. Activities to mark the 21st commemoration of the genocide also centered around engaging the international community on how to stem genocide denial and revisionism. Endi
