Passengers at Lithuanian airports increase by 10 pct

The number of travelers at Lithuania's airports in the first half of 2015, compared to the same period last year, increased by more than 10 percent, administration of Lithuanian Airports state company announced on Friday.
A number of 1.9 million passengers were served in the first six months this year, compared with 1.7 million in 2014, Lithuanian Airports said in statement.
According to Gediminas Almantas, CEO of Lithuanian Airports, this trend points to increased Lithuania's attractiveness both to tourists and business travelers.
"Lithuanians also tend to choose holidays abroad more often, thus we expect to reach one more record of travelers during this travel season," Almantas said.
In his words, airplanes' seat occupancy rates are growing, which encourages airline companies to expand their activities in Lithuania.
About 80 percent of all air travelers choose Vilnius airport in the first half of this year, while Kaunas and Palanga served 17 percent and 3 percent respectively.
The number of travelers at Vilnius airport increased by 14 percent, 1 percent at Palanga, while remaining stable at Kaunas airport.
A number of 17 airline companies operate regular flights from Lithuanian airports. 61 destinations in 48 cities are being served by the airline companies.
About 24 thousand flights were operated from Lithuanian airports in the first six months this year, 6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2014.
Last year, the three Lithuanian airports serviced 3.8 million travelers.
