Jordan, Saudi urge intensified efforts to uproot terrorism

Jordan and Saudi Arabia on Thursday stressed the need for continued collaboration to fight terrorism which is "hijacking Islam" and tarnishing its image, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
At a press conference in the Jordanian capital of Amman, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir and his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh stressed on continued efforts to fight terrorist groups.
Al-Jubeir said Jordan and Saudi Arabia see eye to eye on various issues in the region, stressing that Jordan is a main partner for Saudi Arabia in fighting terrorism and supporting the peace process.
"The security of Jordan and its economic stability are very important for us," al-Jubeir added.
For his part, Judeh voiced appreciation for Saudi Arabia's support to his country, stressing commitment to continued coordination between the two sides on various issues.
"The war on terror is our war and we have to stand up to all those who seek to harm Islam," Judeh said, adding that "Jordan and Saudi Arabia are at the forefront of these efforts."
On the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peace process, the two sides underlined the need for resuming peace talks, saying that they should be held in accordance with a clear time frame that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital at the borders of 1967.
On the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen, Judeh stressed on the importance of dialogue to find solutions to the crises in these countries.
Jordan is part of a U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State and part of a Saudi-led military operation against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. Endit
