The Nepalese government on Wednesday announced to hold the local body elections within a year after a hiatus of 17 years.

Unveiling the Annual Policy and Program on behalf of the Nepalese government on Wednesday at the Nepal's parliament in Kathmandu, President Ram Baran Yadav said the government would hold the elections for the leadership of Village Development Committees (VDC) and municipalities within upcoming July.

The elections should have been held in every five years but due to political instability, have been halted since 1998.

In their manifesto released prior to the second constituent assembly election in December 2013, all the political parties pledged to hold such elections within six months since the formation of the new government.

However, nearly two years after the elections, the major parties have failed to host the local body elections. Endi
