Nikkei plunges 3.14 pct to two-month low

Tokyo stocks plunged 3.14 percent on Wednesday, with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index falling more than 600 points to close at a nearly two-month low as the Chinese stock market tumbled drastically.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 638.95 points, from Tuesday at 19,737.64, a level not seen since May 15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 54.75 points, or 3.34 percent, lower at 1,582.48.

All industry groups lost ground, with financing business, insurance and steel products issues leading decliners.

The turnover was 3,394.68 billion yen (about 27.81 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
