Nepal gets new Chief Justice

Nepal's President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has appointed Senior Justice Kalyan Shrestha as the new Chief Justice of the Country on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The president appointed Shrestha as the new Chief Justice on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council, advisor to the president Dr Surya Dhungel, told Xinhua.

Chief Justice Shrestha took oath of office and secrecy from President Dr Yadav on Wednesday morning at the President's Office Sheetal Niwas in the Nepalese Capital Kathmandu.

Shrestha assumed his office at the Nepal's Supreme Court on Wednesday itself. Shrestha, 64, has replaced Ram Kumar Sah, who was recently retired from the judicial service due to age limit. The new Chief Justice will lead the apex court until the mid of the April, 2016.

Shrestha was born in Baglung District of Western Nepal on 14 April, 1951 and joined government service in 1972 as a local development officer. Later on, he joined the Supreme Court in 1974. Endi
