Former champion Maria Sharapova and Spain's Garbine Muguruza reached the women's singles semifinals of the Wimbledon Championships here on Tuesday.

Sharapova, the 2004 winner, dropped the second set before beating American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 to reach her fifth Wimbledon semifinal.

The fourth-seeded Russian will vie for the final place against either five-time champion Serena Williams or Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

In the other match, the 21-year-old Muguruza defeated 15th seed Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 7-5, 6-3 to book a berth in the last four for the first time in a Grand Slam event.

Muguruza, the first Spanish woman to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in 18 years, will next take on the winner of the match between Poland's Agieszka Radwanska and American Madison Keys. Endi
