Okagbare to compete both track, field at Lausanne Diamond meeting

Olympic long jump bronze medalist Blessing Okagbare is set to hit the field for the first time this season at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Nigerian has attended so far four legs of the IAAF elite races this year but all in sprints, with the women's 100m in Shanghai, Eugene and Paris, and the 200m in Paris.

"It is a good sign that she is focused on her game," commented Omatseye Nesiama, technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

"That is what is expected at this time. The field was tough and her consistently running sub 11secs would no doubt improve her confidence," he said.

The athlete ran her season best 100m of 10.80 seconds to win silver at the Paris Diamond League meeting, trailing Jamaica's Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce at 0.06s.

Okagbare, the 200m third-placed finisher and long jump runner-up in the 2013 Moscow worlds, has been silent in the long jump since her 7.00m jump at the World Championships in Monaco in 2013. Endi
