India calls meeting of Chief Ministers of NE states to review security situation

Xinhua, July 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indian government has called a meeting of Chief Ministers of all northeastern states on July 11 to discuss the security situation in the region, sources said Tuesday.

"The meeting will be held in the northeastern state of Assam's capital Guwahati and will be chaired by Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh," the sources said.

The meeting will not only take stock of the security situation in the region but also discuss strategies to deal with insurgency in northeastern India, the said.

"On the agenda is discussion of strategy to deal with insurgents based in Myanmar, who enter India and cross over to the other side after striking," the sources said.

Various infrastructure projects in the region will also be reviewed, they added.

The Indian Army last month eliminated over 100 militants inside Myanmar after militants killed 18 soldiers in an ambush in the northeastern state of Manipur. Endi
