Uganda's star striker in talks with Denmark's Sonderjyske

Uganda national football team's striker Emmanuel Okwi is in talks with Danish Super Liga side Sonderjyske FC.

The star striker who has featured for the national team for over five years told Xinhua that he will travel to Denmark on Wednesday to conclude the talks.

"This deal would have been concluded some time back, but because I was busy with my wedding. I hope we agree and I join the Club," said Okwi who has been playing for Tanzania's top side Simba SC.

Sonderjyske FC finished 10th in the 2014/2015 season of the Dannish Super Liga out of 12 teams. Maytjylland FC were the champions last season.

In case the deal is sealed, Okwi will be the first Ugandan to feature in a top tier side in Denmark. Okwi who has scored crucial goals for the national team last year in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Evans Aveva, the Simba SC Club President told Xinhua that they have given Okwi a go-ahead to travel to Denmark.

"Simba SC is happy to see their players getting chance to showcase their talent on big international stage. We are happy and above all wish Okwi all the success," he said.

Okwi joined Simba from fellow rivals Yanga SC. He has also featured for SC Villa in Uganda and Etoil Du Sahel in Tunisia.

The other Ugandan players playing in Europe are William Kizito Luwagga, Alex Kakuba and Patrick Edema in Portugal. Endi
