Chile's delegation to participate in the Toronto 2015 Pan-American Games on Monday travelled to the Canadian city, seeking to win 43 medals, including at least six titles.
The Chilean delegation, which includes some 300 athletes, expects to reach the same number of titles won in Rio de Janeiro 2007 and the total medals won in Guadalajara 2011.
Arturo Guzman, General Director of Chile's Olympic Committee (COCH), told reporters in Santiago that between 305 and 307 athletes would travel to Toronto and that "we expect to increase gold medals and reach the same number of medals obtained in Guadalajara."
In the previous edition of Pan-American Games, Chile ended in 13th position in the medals tally as the gold medals came from female swimmer Kristel Kobrich (800m freestyle), the sailing team and long jumper Daniel Pineda.
"Now, Chile's priority is to increase gold medals but also to focus on keeping the total amount won in the previous edition," said Guzman. To reach its goal, COCH expects good performance of Kristel Kobrich, who will participate in open water swimming, of Pineda and the sailing team.
Other main figures of the Chilean delegation are Barbara Rivero (triathlon), Natalia Duco (shot put), Felipe Miranda (water skiing), Nicolas Jarry and Cristian Garin (tennis), Felipe Alvear (fencing) and Maria Fernanda Valdes (weightlifting). Endi
