Euclid Tsakalotos, chief coordinator of Greece's negotiating team over a debt deal with lenders, took over on Monday evening as new Finance Minister on the eve of a crucial euro zone summit that could decide the country's fate.

Tsakalotos, Deputy Foreign Minister of International Economic Affairs, until Monday replaced Yanis Varoufakis who resigned a few hours after Greek voters said a resounding "NO" to the creditors' proposal in a critical referendum on Sunday. (Greece-New Finance Minister)

WASHINGTON -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Monday that it stands ready to assist Greece if required to do so.

The IMF managing director Christine Lagarde made the statement following Greece's referendum that rejected a proposal from international creditors that included pension cuts, tax increases and other austerity measures on Sunday. (IMF-Greece-Debt)

ABUJA -- At least 30 people were killed on Monday when a luxury bus collided head-on with a truck on a highway in central Nigeria's Kogi state, witnesses and rescuers have said.

Scores of others were injured and some 30 cows lost in the accident on the Lokoja-Abuja highway, said rescue volunteer Michael Akintunde.

Some of the victims sustained severe injures, added another rescue operator Chiamaka Okafor. (Nigeria-Road accident)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday that local forces should be the main forces to fight the extremist group the Islamic State (IS) and currently there was no plan for his administration to send more U.S. troops abroad.

Obama told reporters after being briefed by U.S. military leadership on the status of U.S.-led coalition campaign that to succeed in the long-term fight against the IS, "we have to develop local security forces that can sustain progress." (U.S.-Obama-IS)

DHAKA -- An official survey began Monday to confirm enclave dwellers' choice of nationality following exchange of enclaves between Bangladesh and India.
