Ireland's manufacturing production down 7.8 pct in May

Ireland's manufacturing production fell by 7.8 percent in May when compared to the previous month, according to official figures released on Monday.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that production for May decreased by 4.4 percent on an annual basis when compared with May last year.

The modern sector, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed a monthly decrease in production for May of 12.2 percent. There was a monthly increase of 0.6 percent in the traditional manufacturing sector.

Monday's figures also show a decrease of 5.4 percent in the seasonally adjusted industrial turnover index when compared with April 2015, the CSO said, adding that on an annual basis turnover increased by 13.1 percent when compared with the same time last year. Endit
