Indian coast guard intercepts foreign vessels for territorial violation

Xinhua, July 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian coast guard Sunday intercepted a foreign vessel that entered Indian waters near the Alappuzha coast in the southern state of Kerala, local media reported.

The Hindustan Times online quoted police as saying that the vessel was intercepted 52 nautical miles off the Indian coast with the help of navy ships and was later taken to Vizinjam and 12 aboard were detained for questioning.

"A joint team comprising intelligence and navy officials are questioning them. They seem to be Iranian nationals," said the report.

"Initially, they said they lost their way and entered the Indian waters inadvertently," the report quoted a senior police officer as saying. Endi
