Abbas assigns Erekat as acting secretary general of PLO executive committee

Xinhua, July 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday assigned chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat as the acting secretary general of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) executive committee.

The Palestinian president said in an official statement that Erekat will be replacing Yasser Abed Rabbo, who was exempted from his post during a PLO executive meeting held in Ramallah on Monday.

Erekat, 60 years old, is the chief negotiator and head of the negotiations affairs department in the PLO, besides being a member in Abbas Fatah Party's central committee.
