French President Francois Hollande who paid a state visit to Cameroon on Friday called on Cameroon and Nigeria to work together against Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram, which affects the stability of both countries and their neighbors Chad and Niger.
"Soon Nigerian president is coming here in Cameroon. It is very important. It is necessary that Nigeria and Cameroon have better relationship," Hollande said after meeting with Cameroonian President Paul Biya.
Hollande arrived in Cameroon on Friday afternoon after visiting Benin and Angola. This is the first visit by a French president in 14 years after former French president Jacques Chirac came to Cameroon for France-Africa Summit in 2001.
During the visit of Hollande who stayed in Cameroon for just a few hours and left late on Friday, four agreements were signed between the two sides in the fields of infrastructure, rural development and support to private sector totaling 76 billion CFA francs (about 150 million U.S. dollars).
Cameroonian President Paul Biya said the issue of fighting against Boko Haram is on top of his meeting with his French counterpart Hollande.
Hollande, who invited some African leaders including President Paul Biya to attend Paris Summit in May last year to discuss the ways for fighting against Boko Haram, said he is willing to hold another similar consultation to intensify the fight against Boko Haram. Endite
