Myanmar sustains trade deficit in 2 months of FY 2015-16

Myanmar sustained a trade deficit of over 752 million U.S. dollars in the first two months (April to May) of the 2015-16 fiscal year, according to official statistics Friday.

With its total foreign trade amounting to 3973.33 million U.S. dollars during the period, its export stood at 1610.59 million U.S. dollars, while its import took 2362.74 million U.S. dollars.

In May alone, the total trade volume amounted to 2392.13 million U.S. dollars with export taking up 986.96 million U.S. dollars and import representing 1405.17 million U.S. dollars.

According to official statistics, Myanmar registered a trade deficit of 4.9 billion U.S. dollars in the fiscal year 2014-15 ( April 1 to March 31).

With its total foreign trade amounting to 27.79 billion U.S. dollars during the period, its export stood at 11.45 billion U.S. dollars while its import took 16.34 billion U.S. dollars.

Myanmar mostly exports agricultural produce, animal by-products, fishery products, mine and forest products while it imports consumer products, raw materials and investment goods. Endi
