The midfielder Ilkay Guendogan penned a new contract to stay with the "BVB" until 2017, the Bundesliga outfit confirmed via the club's official homepage on Wednesday.

Despite having announced his departure from Dortmund weeks ago, the German international decided to ink a two-year contract extension, until June 2017, with the eight-time German champions.

"The first days of the preseason preparations are over and it's great fun to work with the coaches and teammates. I am glad that we have finally reached clarity so that I can continue playing at Dortmund. From now on I will entirely focus on the preparations as we want to attack in August when the season kicks off," Guendogan said.

Ilkay Guendogan joined from relegated side Nuremberg in 2011. Since his arrival he provided 10 assists and nine goals in 80 appearances. He is besides that part of Germany's national soccer team where he scored three goals in 11 caps.

"We are delighted that Ilkay will continue to play for Dortmund. I am convinced that he will play an important role to reach the club's sporting objectives," Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said.

The "BVB" encounter Monchengladbach for their season opener on August 15. Endi
