Senior CPC official calls for further cooperation between China, Portugal

Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Qibao on Wednesday called for efforts to further promote personnel exchange and media cooperation between China and Portugal while meeting Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho here.

Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that China and Portugal are currently enjoying the best of their bilateral relations in the history as the two countries celebrated the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Liu, also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said that his current visit aims at further pushing the personnel exchange and media cooperation between China and Portugal.

He hopes the two sides will play an active role in promoting mutual understanding of the two peoples and the further development in the relations between China and Portugal, and also the entire Europe in a creative way.

Liu said that the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by China dedicates to safeguarding the free global trade system and an opening global economy which will bring a positive energy to the world peace and development.

Liu congratulated Portugal for its formal entry into the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the two sides are able to strengthen mutually beneficiary cooperation for the happiness of the two peoples by taking advantage of the "Belt and Road" initiative.

Liu appreciated the efforts made by Portugal's Socialist Democratic Party (PSD) to promote the relations between China and Portugal, and hoped that the two sides continue to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and expand the exchanges between the local and young statesmen of the two countries to push the construction of the four partnerships between China and Europe.

For his part, Passos Coelho, who is also president of the PSD, said that the development of relations between Portugal and China is rather satisfying and Portugal is willing to catch every opportunity to deepen and expand the cooperation in various domains between the two countries.

He also expressed his belief that the "Belt and Road" initiative will not only bring the two countries new opportunities for the trade and investment but also promote the personnel exchange and friendship between the two peoples.

He said that Portugal is full of confidence with the future development of relations between Portugal and China. Endit
