1st LD Writethru: U.S. dollar rises on upbeat data

The U.S. dollar climbed against other major currencies on Wednesday as positive jobs data from the country pointed to stronger economy.
The U.S. private sector added 237,000 jobs in June, compared to 203,000 jobs in the previous month, said the ADP national employment report on Wednesday. The latest reading was above market consensus of 220,000.
The bullish report indicated further improvement in the U.S. labor market, bolstering investors'expectation of an interest- rate hike later this year.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six other peers, was up 0.82 percent at 96.271 in late trading.
Another report showed U.S. economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded in June for the 30th consecutive month. The June manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) registered 53.5 percent, an increase of 0.7 percentage point from the May reading of 52.8 percent, slightly above market estimates, said the Institute Supply Management (ISM) in its monthly survey on Wednesday. A reading above 50 indicates growth, while a reading below 50 suggests otherwise.
The euro was under pressure as the latest emergency Eurogroup talks on the Greek debt deal ended fruitless on Wednesday.
Creditors told Athens that discussions will resume after Sunday 's referendum on whether to accept the stringent offers made by institutions last week. Meanwhile, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras vowed a firm "No" in the upcoming referendum in his televised address to the nation.
In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1048 dollars from 1.1144 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound slipped to 1.5602 dollars from 1.5731 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar went down to 0.7645 dollars from 0. 7714 dollars.
The U.S. dollar bought 123.18 Japanese yen, higher than 122.33 yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.9486 Swiss francs from 0.9349 Swiss francs, and it soared to 1.2589 Canadian dollars from 1.2494 Canadian dollars. Endite
