Int'l passengers disrupted during Australian strike

Xinhua, July 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

A strike by Australian Customs and Immigration workers at airports and seaports disrupted international travelers and led to extensive delays in getting in and out of the country on Wednesday.

The two hour strike was over the federal government's refusal to negotiate over proposed changes to pay and conditions which would see the average worker lose 8,000 Australian dollars (6,173 U.S. dollars) a year.

At Sydney airport queues stretched more than 100 meters as people waited to be processed, it was widely reported.

The worker's Community and Public Sector Union apologized for the delays, but said the strike was necessary to publicize the fight of Australian front-line border workers.

It was the second such strike in a month, and more have not been ruled out. Endi
