Thailand's Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plants Conservation (DNP) is poised to destroy 2.7 tons of seized illegal ivories by the end of July, a DNP official said Monday.

With the cabinet's approval of the destruction, the illegal ivories will be crushed into small pieces and then burned at the industrial waste furnace to minimize the impact on the environment, according to DNP Deputy Director-General Adisorn Noochdumrong. (Thailand-Ivory-Destroying)

NICOSIA -- Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has accepted a request by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for a short extension of his country's financial assistance program.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Security Cabinet approved the construction of a massive fence along part of its eastern border with Jordan, an official statement said Monday.

According to the plan, the fence will stretch over 30 km from Israel's most southern city of Eilat towards the designated site of a new airport, north of Eilat. (Israel-Defense-War)

BRUSSELS -- China and Belgium have signed an array of cooperation deals worth more than 18 billion euro (about 20 billion U.S. dollars), Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday.

CAIRO -- Egypt's Prosecutor General succumbed to injuries he sustained earlier on Monday in a bomb attack in Cairo, official MENA news agency reported.

Hesham Barakat, 65, has been seriously wounded and was taken to a hospital in Cairo where he got a sensitive surgery after which he breathed his last. (Egypt-Prosecutor-Assassination)

KABUL -- A total of 18 people including 11 Afghan soldiers lost their lives as military convoy came under attack of militants in the western Herat province with Herat city as its capital, 640 km west of Kabul, on Sunday, Defense Ministry said in a statement here Monday.
