Cyclist Terpstra grabs third Dutch championship title

Xinhua, June 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Niki Terpstra won the Dutch cycling road race championship for the third time on Sunday.

After 253 kilometers, a small peloton sprinted for the victory in Emmen. The Etixx-Quick Step rider stayed ahead of Ramon Sinkeldam and Danny van Poppel.

Earlier in the race, a breakaway group of eight riders got a maximum advantage of nearly 18 minutes, but seven kilometers before the finish they were caught.

The 31-year-old Terpstra also became Dutch champion in 2010 in Beek and in 2013 in Kerkrade. Last year Sebastian Langeveld captured the title.

Last Wednesday Wilco Kelderman (LottoNL) won the Dutch time trial championship in Emmen. Contrary to Terpstra, Kelderman will start in the forthcoming Tour de France, to begin on July 4 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The 24-year-old rider will make his debut in "La Grande Boucle". Endi
