Tokyo stocks plunged 2.88 percent on Monday, with benchmark Nikkei stocks index seeing its biggest points drop this year on concerns over a Greek debt default.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 596.20 points from Friday at 20.109.95. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 42.21 points, or 2.53 percent, lower at 1,624.82.
The turnover was 2,657.37 billion yen (about 21.62 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- China's stock market saw sharp fluctuations on Monday despite unexpected rate cuts from the central bank on Sunday.
The major Shanghai Composite index closed 3.34 percent lower at 4,053.03 points. The Shenzhen Component Index lost 5.78 percent to close at 13,566.27 points.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, slumped by 7.91 percent to end at 2,689.76 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 696.89 points, or 2. 61 percent to 25,966.98 points on Monday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,617.78 and 26, 631.51. Turnover totaled 186.13 billion HK dollars (about 24.02 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Monday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 29.77 points, or 1.42 percent, to 2,060.49 at the close. Trading volume stood at 499.3 million shares worth 6.14 trillion won (5.46 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australia's market has wiped off approximately 30 billion U.S. dollars, its biggest loss since early may, on fears of a Greek default and an exit from the eurozone.
Australia's benchmark S&P/ASX 200 slid 2.23 percent down to 5422.5 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index tumbled 2.16 percent to 5416.6 points.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.72 percent lower on Monday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index dropped by 54.67 points to 7567.38. The all-share index went down by 27.25 points, or 0.63 percent, to 4331.41.
