New Zealand to support trans-Tasman infrastructure project

Xinhua, June 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand is looking to pool its infrastructure marketing with Australia in order to attract a wider range of investors, Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce said Monday.

Joyce said he was using a visit to the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia Major Projects Symposium in Sydney Monday to build bilateral links in trade, investment, business, education and innovation.

Australia was New Zealand's biggest financial partner with investments in New Zealand worth 51.84 billion NZ dollars (35.54 billion U.S. dollars), Joyce said in a statement before leaving.

"There are opportunities to strengthen our relationship to help us become one of the most prosperous small countries in the world by 2030," Joyce said.

He would show support for an Australia-New Zealand infrastructure pipeline to jointly market infrastructure projects of scale to international investors.

"A common pipeline could attract a wider pool of potential investors, and also allow trans-Tasman contractors to prioritize projects and plan more effectively," Joyce said. Endi
