Profile: Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam

Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam will pay a state visit to China from June 29 to July 4 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Tan Keng Yam was born in Singapore on Feb. 7, 1940. He once served as Singapore's finance minister, minister of trade and industry, education minister, deputy prime minister and defense minister, and deputy prime minister and minister for national security.

He was also chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, chairman of Singapore Press Holdings Limited, and executive director and deputy chairman of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.
