Xinhua, June 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Portugal's 13th International Kite Festival ended on Sunday in Alcochete with dozens of kites of all colors and shapes being flown under the blue sky.

The Praia dos Moinhos beach in Alcochete town, some 35 kilometers north of capital Lisbon, attracted thousands of visitors, both adults and children from all over the world.

"This is an international event, which is unique in Portugal and we do it because we love to see how happy the children are, and to bring color to the village," organizer Joao Alves, from Association GILTeatro told Xinhua.

"There is no competition, it is about bringing people together who enjoy it. We also had the world and EU champions here who put on a great show."

He added that there was a total of 10 teams this year attending the event, including teams from UK, France, Spain, Brazil, Italy, the U.S., Germany, as well as Portugal.

The two-day kite festival was organized by Association GilTeatro and the city council with a budget of around 8,000 euros.

During the morning, children learnt how to make their own kites. There were both static and acrobatic kites of all kinds, including kites in the forms of a giant dragon and a whale. Endit
