A total of 61 people were killed on Sunday, most of them were Islamic State (IS) militants, in clashes, air strikes and gunfire across Iraq, security sources said.

In Anbar province, the army artillery pounded IS positions in Saggara area near the city of Haditha, some 200 km northwest of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, leaving 26 IS militants killed along with destroying two of their vehicles, a provincial security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- At least two army personnel were feared killed while two others missing after an army helicopter made a hard landing in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Sunday, a provincial source said.

"An initial investigation showed the chopper conducted a crash landing following a technical failure in Naw Abad locality of Maiwand district at around midday," the source told Xinhua anonymously. (Afghanistan-Helicopter)

ABUJA -- Five people were killed and 15 others injured after a suicide bombing incident near a hospital in Nigeria's Maiduguri city, capital of the northeastern Borno State, an official and witness said Sunday.

Two female suicide bombers on Saturday attempted to gain entry into a government-run hospital located in Molai area of the city but were stopped by security operatives on duty at the facility, said Mohammed Kanar, the regional coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency. KABUL -- A senior al-Qaeda leader named Abdul Azaam Al Subhi had been killed in a U.S. drone attack in Afghanistan, a local television channel Tolo reported Sunday.
