49 militants killed in fresh operations in Afghanistan

A total of 49 Taliban militants were killed as the Afghan security forces pressed ahead with offensives in restive provinces, the country's Defense Ministry said on Sunday. "The Afghan National Army (ANA) waged offensives in eastern Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Ghazni, Logar and southern Helmand province over the past 24 hours, killing 49 terrorists," the ministry said in a statement.

The army soldiers also found weapons and ammunition in addition to defusing several roadside bombs and landmines, it noted.

The statement also confirmed the death of two ANA personnel in the same period.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Endit
