Italian rider Valentino Rossi won the MotoGP race at the 85th edition of the TT in Assen on Saturday, booking a record seventh TT victory in the MotoGP.

With his seventh win in Assen in the MotoGP Rossi surpassed his legendary compatriot Giacomo Agostini's record of six wins in the former premier category, the 500cc. In all three major classes, it was Rossi's ninth win in Assen, equaling record holder Angel Nieto.

In front of 97,000 spectators the 36-year-old Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) started the race in the Dutch province of Drenthe from pole position and was able to keep the lead for 19 of the total of 26 rounds.

Last year's winner Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took over for four rounds, but Rossi finally won by holding Marquez off in a dramatic end to the race.

Rossi took his 111th GP victory in total and extended his championship lead. With ten races to go he now leads with 163 points, ten more than his Spanish teammate Jorge Lorenzo, who won the previous four races, but finished third in Assen.

In the Moto2 French World Championship leader Johann Zarco (Kalex Ajo Motorsport) came out on top in duel with Spanish rival Tito Rabat (Kalex EG 0,0 Marc VDS). In the Moto3 Red Bull KTM Ajo's Miguel Oliveira from Portugal took the victory, with British World Championship leader Danny Kent (Honda Leopard Racing) finishing third. Endi
