The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday slammed the annual report on human rights issued Thursday by the United States, saying it was a sinister attempt to overthrow its socialist system.

"The U.S. is dreaming a foolish dream that any 'change' would take place in the DPRK, just something such as provoking a side-splitting laughter," the unnamed DPRK foreign ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by the official KCNA news agency.

He rebutted the U.S reports on human rights practices in 2014, saying that "the U.S. will see the DPRK's military muscle increasing in every way and its people enjoying a happy life under socialism."

The spokesman also warned of "tougher countermeasures" if Washington persists in its hostile policy toward the DPRK.

"The world will clearly see how the DPRK will smash the U.S. moves for isolating and stifling it," he added.
