Singapore, Australia to ink comprehensive strategic partnership

Xinhua, June 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Australia Prime Minister Tony Abbott will sign a comprehensive strategic partnership with Singapore during his first visit to the country on Sunday, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will sign the partnership deal with Abbott, while a welcome ceremony will be held for his Australian counterpart on Monday. The Australian prime minister will also call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam during his two-day visit, the ministry said.

The agreement will see new levels of integration between the two countries across four sectors: economic, foreign affairs, defense and security, and people-to-people fields.

Abbott will visit the Singapore Botanical Gardens, where an orchid hybrid will be named in honor of the relationship between both countries.

"Prime Minister Abbott's visit underscores the deep and long- standing ties between the two countries as Singapore and Australia commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year," the ministry said. Endi
