New chief of Bangladesh army takes command

Newly-appointed Chief of Bangladesh' s Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq Thursday took over the charge of the force.

Gen. Belal replaced Gen. Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, who handed over the charge to him through a simple ceremony at Bangladesh's army headquarters in Dhaka, said an army press release.

The chiefs of air and naval staff adorned Belal with the rank badge of general at the prime minister's official residence Gono Bhaban.

Prior to his new position, he was the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division under the Prime Minister's Office. Endi
