The European Union here on Thursday announced support worth 100 million euros (112 million U.S. dollars) for the reconstruction process in Nepal two months after an earthquake devastated the country.

According to a press release issued by the European Commission, the funding decision was made during a donor conference in Kathmandu, designed to mobilize further international support for the country.

European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica also announced a package of up to 5 million euros for technical assistance to support the government of Nepal in its reconstruction efforts.

Media reports had said that Nepal needed around 6.7 billion U.S. dollars to rebuild the country from the quake in April, which killed more than 8,700 people, destroyed 500,000 houses, and left thousands homeless. Endit
