A total of 30 people were killed and 47 others wounded on Thursday clashes between government forces and Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq's western province of Anbar, security sources said.

Government security forces and allied militias, who were covered by Iraqi and U.S. coalition aircraft, repelled an IS attack in Nadhim al-Taqseem area north of the IS-held city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. At least six IS militants were killed and 10 others wounded, a provincial security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-IS-Conflict)

ISLAMABAD -- At least 1,017 people have died and hundreds of others have been admitted to different hospitals after suffering from heatstroke and dehydration in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh during the last six days, local media and officials said on Thursday.

According to the reports, at least 955 people died in different hospitals in the southern port city of Karachi, home to over 20 million people and the provincial capital of Sindh. (Pakistan-Heat-Wave)

AMMAN -- One Jordanian was killed and four others were injured when mortar shells from Syria fell into the town of Ramtha, a security official said Thursday.

The mortar shells from Syria hit houses, a school and a commercial area in Ramtha, a Jordanian town bordering Syria, the security source told Xinhua, adding that a 23-year old man was killed in the shelling. (Jordan-Syria-Shelling)

SANAA -- A U.S. drone strike killed four al-Qaida suspects in Yemen's southeastern province of Hadramout, a security official told Xinhua on Thursday. "The U.S. drone hit a vehicle driving on a desert road on the outskirts of al-Mukalla, the provincial capital city of Hadramout, late on Wednesday, killing four al-Qaida militants on board," the official told Xinhua by phone on condition of anonymity. NIAMEY -- Fifteen Boko Haram fighters were killed and 20 others arrested by the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS) during clashes that occurred between June 18 to 23 in Niger's Diffa region near the Nigerian border, an official source said Wednesday.

Following the attack carried out on June 17 in Niger's Gueskerou commune by the Islamist sect, killing 38 civilians, FDS launched ground and air operations in the area. (Niger-Boko Haram-Conflict) Endi
