Grenade blasts injure 7 in Burundi

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least seven people were injured in two separate grenade explosions that occurred Thursday almost simultaneously in the city center of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, witnesses told Xinhua on Thursday.

"A man detonated a grenade at about 10:30 (08:30 GMT) near BANCOBU Bank. Six persons were injured and some of them seriously during the explosion," said witnesses found near the area.

Other witnesses indicated that a second grenade exploded almost at the same time near a road leading to the Burundian ombudsman's office, injuring a motorcyclist.

"The grenade exploded around 10:40 (08:40 GMT) on the crossroads between the street leading to the so-called Asian neighborhood and the avenue leading to the office of the Burundian Ombudsman," said witnesses.

The witnesses indicated that casualties would have been high if the latter grenade exploded in a crowd that was near the place.

They indicated that the grenade detonated under a running car.

Two cars were also damaged during the grenade explosions. Endi
