Martinez agent says Atletico Madrid is done deal

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

The arrival of Porto's Colombian international striker Jackson Martinez to Atletico Madrid appears to be just a question of time after the player's agent confirmed that he would be joining the Spanish club.

"Luiz Henrique Pompeo told Spanish sports paper, Diario AS that Atletico are prepared to pay Martinez's 35 million euro buyout clause (around 40 million US dollars).

"The agreement was closed today," he said, delighted to see his client join Atletico.

"It is a very big club which has done important things in both the Spanish league and in Europe and Jackson will go there to do big things and to try and become even better."

"He is very happy and convinced at the decision he has taken," said the agent.

Pompeo said the presence of Diego Simeone as Atletico coach had also been a factor in Martinez's decision.

"He is a winner," he commented.

The move will be finalized between the two clubs when Colombia are either knocked out of the Copa America, or the tournament finishes. Martinez's side face Argentina in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Meanwhile in other news linked to Atletico Madrid, the representative of Spain international midfielder, Jorge Resurrection (Koke) has ruled out the player leaving the club despite offers to move to the Premier League this summer.

"Koke identifies fully with Atletico Madrid," said Inaki Espinoza, who looks after the player's interests. Endi
