Slovakia will provide financial humanitarian aid worth 15,000 euros (17,000 U.S. dollars) to Georgia, which was hit by deadly floods a week ago, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said on Monday.
The assistance will be granted from the ministry's official development aid resources and should be used to cover the most pressing needs of the country. The massive flood that swept through Georgia's capital Tbilisi and other regions claimed 13 lives and left hundreds of people homeless.
"Nothing can replace the tragic losses caused by the floods, but we can at least mitigate their impacts. This is the meaning behind our financial humanitarian aid," stressed Lajcak, adding that Slovakia has at its disposal teams of experts ready to be dispatched to Georgia if needed.
The Slovak foreign ministry's budget counts on a total of 370,000 euros (420,000 U.S. dollars) being distributed in humanitarian aid in 2015. Enditem
